Experience the national holiday in the region and take part in one of the many events on offer in the localities of Nord Vaudois. From Yverdon-les-Bains to Orbe, by way of the mountain pastures and lakeshores, there’s a wide choice of events to enjoy on August 1st.
On August 1st, the region’s alpine chalets are often prized for their natural setting, simplicity and friendly atmosphere.
In Ballaigues, the Chalet des Cernys offers a raclette carrousel (5 types of cheese, each as delicious as the next), accompanied by the traditional August 1st bonfire and musical entertainment.
A little further up the Jura, Le Suchet and its emblematic Chalet du Suchet welcomes visitors to enjoy a fondue before taking in the panoramic view over the Canton. It’s also a great spot to watch the various fireworks displays on the plain.
At the summit of the Balcon du Jura, at theHôtel-Restaurant du Chasseron (summit at 1,608 m) offers a fondue evening. It doesn’t get any more Swiss than this. Different fondues are available (garlic, tomato or Mauler).
Finally at theAuberge des Gélinottesenjoy an evening of national festivities with a Swiss speciality in the spotlight: cervelas! From 6:18 pm onwards, enjoy an unforgettable evening with a special menu, just a stone’s throw from Mont Aubert, above Concise.
Remember to reserve your table, no matter which chalet you’re going to. It’s compulsory for the evening at Le Chasseron (deadline July 28) and at Les Gélinottes. Reservations are highly recommended for other chalets.
The lakeside communities offer a variety of activities for the August 1st festival.
A Yverdon-les-BainsIn Yverdon-les-Bains, you’ll find entertainment in the town center as well as on the beach. A little further along Lake Neuchâtel, in Yvonand, you’ll find a lively evening starting at 5pm on the Pré de l’Hôtel de Ville. With concerts, a light show and a bouncy castle for the kids, it’s sure to be a fun evening with the Tapa-Sabllias (as the inhabitants of Yvonand are known). And on the other side of the lake, in Grandsona great party is also in store at the beach. From 11 a.m. onwards, a variety of concerts, entertainment and fireworks will thrill the Grandsonnois and Grandsonnoises. For full details, click here.
