Need advice?

Are you coming to Northern Vaud for the first time or do you know it well? Looking for useful information to help you prepare for your trip, local information or valuable advice? You’re in the right section.

Access

Our region lies to the north of the canton of Vaud and is easily accessible in a number of ways.

Plane

  • Geneva airport: 1-hour train or car journey to Yverdon-les-Bains
  • Zurich airport: 2-hour journey (train or car) to Yverdon-les-Bains
  • Basel airport: 2h journey by car, 2h30 by train to Yverdon-les-Bains

Train

The region can be reached via major national and European rail lines.

  • TGV Lyria connects Vallorbe and Lausanne from Paris
  • National train routes and timetables

Swiss Travel Pass

This popular train ticket allows unlimited use of the Swiss Travel Pass rail, road and waterway network for 3, 4, 8 and 15 days. Swiss Travel Pass gives you free access to over 480 museums and exhibitions.

Car

Our region is easily accessible by car via the Swiss motorway network. Northern Vaud is crossed by the A1, A5 and A9 freeways.

In Switzerland, the vignette acts as a toll on freeways. Available at a price of CHF 40.00, it is valid for the current year until January 31 of the following year. It can be purchased at motorway customs, post offices or service stations.

Getting around Northern Vaud

The region’s public transport network provides connections between the various destinations.

Public transport

Several companies serve the Nord Vaud region. To find your route and consult the timetables, please refer to the following websites:

  • SBB: national and regional trains
  • Travys: bus and train services in northern Vaud
  • Car Postal: buses to certain villages
  • Mobilis: daily travel card

Boats

LNM company boats operate on Lake Neuchâtel from May to September, linking Yverdon-les-Bains with Estavayer-le-La A boat also runs from Yverdon-les-Bains to Grandson. The LNM links the lakes of Neuchâtel, Biel and Murten, i.e. four different cantons (Vaud, Neuchâtel, Berne and Fribourg).

Car rental

The Mobility company lets you rent a car anywhere in Switzerland. In Northern Vaud, rentals are available from Yverdon-les-Bains, Grandson, Orbe and Sainte-Croix.

Parking

There are two parking areas in different towns and villages:

  • Zone Blanche: authorized duration varies, see nearby signs. Parking spaces with individual or collective parking meters.
  • Zone Bleue: duration 1h00 maximum. Parking disc required.

Parking discs are available from police stations.

Currency

As Switzerland is not part of the EU, it still uses the Swiss franc (CHF). To allow comparison with other European countries, prices are often quoted in Swiss Francs and Euros. It is possible to pay in Euros in many stores, but change will be given in Swiss Francs.
