Commissioned more than a century ago, the La Dernier hydropower plant has contributed to the development of the region by meeting the growing need for electricity and regulating the flow of Lac de Joux. It produces some 29,000 MWh a year, equivalent to the annual consumption of 8,300 households.
The guided tour provides an insight into the plant’s history, explains how the machines work and gives an overview of the energy issues facing our country. The programme is suitable for all ages, and includes a walk through the heart of the power station and its surroundings.
A combined visit:
This tour can be combined with a visit to the Vallorbe Caves, just a few metres away.
In just half a day, visitors can discover the source of the Orbe, the wonders of the underground world and the human ingenuity involved in transforming the power of water into electricity.
