When the weather’s nice, enjoy the water in Northern Vaud! With a variety of water sports centers, sandy beaches and activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy a refreshing day out.
The lakeside towns welcome bathers and holidaymakers to their beaches for a relaxing change of scenery.
Whether you’re in Concise or Grandson, the beaches offer breathtaking views of the Alps. In Concise, a small wine-growing village, the small beach by the harbour offers a pleasant setting for a family day out. Nearby, the playground offers an alternative for children who no longer feel like swimming 😉
Further afield, in Yverdon-les-Bains, discover a variety of lakeside spots. First of all, the Promenade Robert Hainard, which you can cross by bike or on foot from Grandson, is a bird-watching mecca, where you’ll be amazed by the diversity of bird species.
Continuing on your way, you’ll come to Quai du Nogent, home to La Dérivée, Yverdon’s ephemeral summer spot. Here, too, you’ll find the LNM pier, where you can take a boat to Grandson or other port towns on Lake Neuchâtel. A stone’s throw away, the Parc des Rives offers plenty of places to picnic and play sports such as basketball. The municipal swimming pool is also nearby, offering both an indoor and an outdoor pool.
Let’s continue our tour of the beaches on the south side of the lake, starting with Yverdon-les-Bains. Just a stone’s throw from the Clendy menhirs, two sandy beaches await you. In addition, a large shaded park is perfect for barbecues or picnics. Nearby, Y-Plage lets you rent equipment such as kayaks and pedal boats.
Last but not least, Yvonand, renowned for its sandy beaches, offers a complete change of scenery. With the VD8 and Menthue beaches, you can enjoy an air of the Mediterranean while remaining in the Canton of Vaud. What’s more, the Grande Cariçaie nature reserve offers the chance to see numerous plant and animal species in a wild, unspoilt setting. The Pro Natura Center in Champ-Pittet perfectly showcases the richness of this natural heritage.
