This route follows the lake and then the Grande Cariçaie nature reserve before leading you to the cobbled streets of the charming medieval village of Estavayer-le-Lac. This first section, which is almost like being at the seaside, finally switches to a more rural countryside in the lake’s hinterland between the Cantons of Vaud and Fribourg, all the time with the majestic Alps as a backdrop.
You can shorten the itinerary: after Estavayer-le-Lac cross the countryside to Champtauroz, then Donneloye and on to Yverdon-les-Bains (see the map).
