According to legend, following the Battle of Murten (22 June 1476), a messenger carrying a lime tree branch ran to Fribourg to announce the victory of the Confederates over Charles the Bold. He died of exhaustion upon his arrival, and the branch took root.
The municipality of Murten is presenting a lime tree to the municipality of Grandson in memory of the Confederates’ victory in the Burgundian Wars. The ceremony will take place on Rue Haute, with the participation of the Petit Choeur des écoles choir.
