At the heart of their creation resonates the Tanbûr, a sacred instrument dating back more than 4,000 years, whose sound still carries the stories, prayers and wisdom of ancient Persia. Other traditional instruments dialogue around it – including the Daf, whose pulse evokes the beating of the heart – as well as, more recently, the dulcimer and the guitar, to create sounds that can touch all generations.
The poems of Rumi, Hafez, Attar, Khayyam and the texts of the group’s director nourish this music, which recounts the spiritual quest, the mysteries of the cosmos and the memory of the ancients. On stage, Saama’s movements, inspired by the prayers of his predecessors, become a spinning dance in which the soul seems to rise out of the body.
