Concert: Tribute to J-S Bach

For this tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach, the Carpe Diem ensemble presents a number of emblematic works: organ trios and a canon from The Art of Fugue, transcribed for recorder, as well as extracts from cantatas and a toccata for organ in their original versions.

As John Eliot Gardiner points out in his book Music in the Castle of Heaven: ‘This extraordinary music (the cantatas) is an expression of Bach’s Lutheran faith. It carries a universal message of hope that can touch everyone, whatever their culture, religious affiliation or musical knowledge.
