In the 19th century, the Orbe district was the largest wine-growing district in the Canton of Vaud. Today, the appellation, which covers almost 22 communes in northern Vaud, or almost 180 hectares of vines, represents just under 5% of Vaud’s wine-growing area.
A land of red wines, with Gamay as the most widely cultivated grape variety, Côtes de l’Orbe winegrowers offer quality vintages that have often won awards in various competitions. In all,
is home to more than 50 vineyards. Domaine du Manoir in Valeyres-sous-Rances is developing its cooperage business, producing barrels from 100% Swiss wood.
The town ofOrbe, with its colorful alleyways and iconic esplanade du Château, is at the heart of this vineyard. A stroll through the historic town adds a cultural dimension to a complete stay in northern Vaud.
